VoIP Engineer
ROLE SUMMARY
Seeking a VoIP Engineer, with both passion and experience in the design, implementation, and optimization of large-scale unified communications deployments, leveraging expertise in SIP, H.323, and MGCP protocols. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience with Fax-over-IP (FoIP) technologies, including T.38 and G.711 fax protocols and Session Border Controllers (SBCs), with a seasoned ability in packet capture analysis.
KEY DUTIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Design, implement, and maintain large-scale FoIP solutions, in a multi-datacenter environment.
• Configure and troubleshoot SBCs, to ensure seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain expertise in FoIP protocols, including G.711 and T.38 and any future evolutions.
• Utilize SIP trace tools to troubleshoot and optimize active-active Fax-over-IP datacenter traffic over BGP.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Engineering teams to ensure smooth integration of FoIP solutions with existing and future infrastructure, designing for hybrid multi-cloud, multi-region, large-scale capacity.
• Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new FoIP technologies, including STIR/SHAKEN.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation for FoIP solutions.
• Participate in regulatory compliance (HITRUST/SOC2) evidencing for audits.
JOB-SPECIFIC EXPIERENCE, EDUCATION & SKILLS
• 5+ years’ experience in Unified Communications Engineering, with a focus on large-scale deployments and Fax-over-IP implementations, preferred.
• Strong understanding of VoIP/FoIP protocols, including SIP, H.323, MGCP, G.711 and T.38.
• Professional experience with packet capture tools, such as Wireshark, for SIP tracing required.
• Strong understanding of network architecture and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex environments.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
o Enghouse SBCs
o STIR/SHAKEN
o Cloud-based VoIP solutions, such as Amazon Chime or Azure Communication Services.
o Exposure to a datacenter using DevOps tools, such as Ansible, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, etc.
o In-depth knowledge of VoIP security best practices, SOC, and HIPAA/HITRUST security standards.
